Describe how each room will be used before selecting lights, controls or power-point positions. Ask an electrician to assess the proposed work and coordinate it with the room layout.

Record the activities and fixed features

A room plan can show where people read, prepare food, work or move through the space. Mark furniture and cabinetry decisions that are already settled, and label tentative ideas as provisional. This helps the electrician discuss the requested outcome without treating a sketch as a wiring design.

Keep product information where a fitting or appliance has already been chosen. Ask whether the selection needs review before purchase or installation. A product shown in a catalogue is not confirmation that it suits the location or the existing installation.

Coordinate decisions before work starts

Identify which trade controls each unfinished decision. Cabinetry, ceiling work and decorating can affect the sequence of an electrical project. Ask what must be settled before a quote is finalised and what would trigger a revised scope.

At handover, request an explanation of ordinary controls and retain the applicable work records and product manuals. If a label or function is unclear, ask the installer rather than experimenting with protective equipment.
